Cette vision se traduit par le développement de trois (03) nouvelles Zones économiques à régime privilégié (ZERP) à travers le pays : Port Gentil, Lambaréné, Franceville ; La création de 200 000 ha de plantations d’Eucalyptus à croissance rapide à Franceville pour approvisionner et soutenir la production des Zones économiques spéciales (ZES) ; La mise en place d’un système moderne de traçabilité forestière et industrielle. En 2021, les exportations du bois gabonais étaient estimées à 1 684 023 m³, soit : Afrique (33 035), Europe (500 952), Amérique (131 865), Asie (889 700), Autres (128 471).
Le Gabon compte à ce jour, plus de 200 usines spécialisées dans la 1ère, 2ème et 3ème transformation pour une production nationale en grume estimée à 3 556 667,573 m³. La production industrielle des bois transformés (sciage, déroulage, tranchage) est de 1 182 741m³. Les projections nationales en matière de production pour les 5 et 10 prochaines années (unité : en 1000 m³) sont estimées à 1 833 731 m³ en 2026, et à 2 495 539 m³ en 2031.
Le président gabonais, Ali Bongo Ondimba a pris l’ambitieuse décision de certifier 100 % de concessions forestières gabonaises d’après les normes FSC. Le Gabon est le pays du bassin du Congo-Ogooué présentant le plus important couvert forestier en termes de pourcentage du territoire (88 %), avec un total de 22 millions d’hectares.
Dont 15 millions d’hectares sont des concessions gérées, et seulement 2 hectares sont certifiées FSC. La décision présidentielle d’exiger la certification FSC dans toutes les concessions forestières du pays, signifie que la superficie gérée de manière durable pourrait augmenter d’environs 13 millions d’hectares. Le Gabon pourrait tirer de cette norme des bénéfices économiques, car FSC est un gage de légalité qui permet d’ouvrir des marchés.
