S’exprimant à cette occasion également, la ministre d’Etat chargée de l’éducation élémentaire, Moriku Kaducu, a reconnu la contribution positive d’Airtel Ouganda et de l’UNICEF dans la transformation des opportunités éducatives pour les enfants. Elle a promis que le gouvernement soutiendrait le partenariat sous la forme d’un cadre politique favorable et d’engagements continus pour réduire les taux d’imposition sur les appareils et les données des utilisateurs finaux à des fins éducatives.
Le représentant de l’UNICEF en Ouganda, le Dr Munir Safieldin, a expliqué que « grâce à la plateforme d’apprentissage numérique Kolibri, le partenariat atteindra 54 000 élèves avec un contenu basé sur l’USSD/SMS et optimisé pour les mobiles. Actuellement, Kolibri est disponible dans plus de 100 écoles secondaires dotées de laboratoires informatiques et dans 15 centres TIC adaptés aux jeunes dans les camps de réfugiés. On estime à 16 000 le nombre d’apprenants et à 350 le nombre d’enseignants dans les écoles secondaires qui ont participé à l’initiative Kolibri. Plus de 1 080 adolescents et 200 volontaires formés sont impliqués dans la mise en œuvre de l’initiative Kolibri en dehors de l’école. À ce jour, plus de 7 500 utilisateurs se sont inscrits et ont interagi avec plus de 200 000 contenus. »
Airtel Africa et l’UNICEF ont lancé un partenariat de 57 millions de dollars sur cinq ans en 2021, afin d’accélérer le déploiement de l’apprentissage numérique pour les enfants en connectant les écoles à Internet et en garantissant un accès gratuit aux plateformes d’apprentissage en Ouganda et dans d’autres pays d’exploitation d’Airtel, pour s’assurer que chaque enfant atteigne son plein potentiel.
