La journée mondiale contre l’hépatite a été célébrée cette année sous le thème « rapprocher les soins de l’hépatite des communautés ». Ainsi après 48 heures d’activités, le Docteur Elisabeth Love Andrée Embinga la présidente de l’ONG SOS Hépatites et son équipe, ont pu parler de leur stratégie face aux nombreux visiteurs.
« Les gens étaient curieux de savoir qu’est-ce que l’hépatite parce qu’on n’en parle pas souvent, et nous avions un questionnaire pour recueillir les données sur la connaissance de la population à l’infection à l’hépatite B et C et nous constatons que ces dernières sont vraiment mal connues dans notre pays », a déclaré la présidente de l’ONG SOS Hépatites.
Se plaignant du fait que plusieurs personnes ne sont jamais passées par le dépistage ni reçu les trois doses de vaccin recommandées pour faire face à cette maladie, et que beaucoup d’autres ne connaissent pas le traitement curatif de ces hépatites, encore moins les modes de transmission, « la sensibilisation doit être améliorée dans notre pays », a estimé le Docteur Embinga.
Se disant satisfaite du travail abattu, la présidente de l’ONG SOS Hépatites qui au dernier jour a affirmé avoir fait dépister une centaine de personnes, a aussi évoqué la prise en charge médicale de personnes testées positives aux hépatites virales : « nous avons les Hépato Gastroentérologues qui travaillent avec nous et les personnes testées positives pourront bénéficier d’une prise en charge médicale ».
Et pour conclure, « nous conseillons aux populations de continuer de se faire dépister car mieux vaut guérir de l’hépatite que de gérer une cirrhose ou un cancer de foie. Il serait aussi judicieux de se faire vacciner au centre de vaccination de Nkembo pour ceux qui ne l’ont jamais fait ».
