Le nombre de cas en hausse soit 420 au soir du 29 janvier dernier, aurait provoqué la fermeture des frontières terrestres. Le Secrétaire général adjoint du ministère de la défense, le Colonel Félicien Koyi, qui a rendu publique cette information « suite à la remontée particulièrement importante de la pandémie de Covid-19, le ministère de la Défense nationale informe les populations que les frontières terrestres sont fermées à compter de ce jour, samedi 30 janvier 2021 », a précisé que «cette mesure est prise par principe de précaution et sera applicable jusqu’à nouvel ordre sauf autorisation spéciale de sortie et d’entrée délivrée par les autorités habilitées».
Jusqu’au 29 janvier, le Gabon totalisait 420 cas actifs de malades de Covid-19, avec 34 hospitalisations et réanimations, et 68 morts. Cette décision de fermeture intervient sans avoir au préalable prévenu les usagers de la route qui ne savent pas où donner de la tête. Les dégâts collatéraux de cette décision pourraient être nombreuses notamment, sur le transport des denrées alimentaires en provenance du Cameroun et du Congo.
