Emmanuel Macron le Président français a invité ses Pairs à agir afin de réduire la pauvreté, préserver la planète et doter les pays les plus vulnérables de moyens conséquents pour faire face aux crises climatiques, tout en faisant un plaidoyer pour que les investissements publics et privés soient orientés vers les pays du sud et émergents, afin qu’ils concilient développement économique et lutte contre le changement climatique.
Dans un rapport des travaux lu devant ses hôtes, Emmanuel Macron a mentionné quelques avancées, notamment les 100 milliards de dollars promis pour le climat depuis 2009, qui aujourd’hui ont été versés à hauteur de plus de 60% ; le principe d’une clause climatique dans le cadre des prêts bancaires des États ; l’augmentation par le FMI de 100 milliards de dollars pour le financement des pays pauvres ; l’accélération du traitement de la dette ; les banques multilatérales de développement qui doivent se réformer pour attirer les investisseurs privés entre autres.
Il a appelé à la mise en place d’un nouveau consensus pour relever les défis multiformes auxquels fait face l’humanité. L’objectif étant de réformer le système financier mondial pour le rendre plus efficace et plus juste. La mise en place d’un mécanisme de suivi des engagements a été annoncée avant la tenue d’un nouveau Sommet à Paris dans deux ans pour une évaluation des résultats.
Rappelons que la cérémonie de clôture du Sommet a fait l’objet de deux Sessions. La première portant sur le “l’investissement solidaire et la seconde sur “Climat et Pauvreté”.
